Intellectual property is crucial for every individual or business looking to build a brand. Obtaining a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) allows your brand logo to appear next to every email you send. This not only protects your brand and enhances your professional image, but also helps your customers quickly recognize your brand and avoid online scams.

However, to obtain VMC trademark protection, you must first ensure that your brand name has been registered as a trademark. Only then can you apply for a VMC. A Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) allows your brand logo to appear in supported email clients, including all Google and Apple Mail products.

What is a VMC?

A Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) is a digital certificate issued by an authorized Certificate Authority (CA) to verify trademark ownership. It is also known as a Certification Mark Certificate.

Brands with a VMC can display their trademark next to the “sender” field in email clients. This allows recipients to see the sender’s company logo even before opening the email, helping them trust that the message comes from a legitimate brand.

Which countries’ trademark registrations are recognized for VMCs?

Currently, VMCs recognize trademark registrations from the following countries: the United States, Canada, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Spain, Australia, India, South Korea, Brazil, France, Benelux, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, and New Zealand.

Although the list of eligible countries is still growing, relevant organizations are actively working to expand recognition. Essentially, no matter whether your target market is in the U.S., Europe, Asia, or elsewhere, you can still apply for VMC certification.

How to apply for VMC certification?

To obtain VMC certification, you must first register your brand logo as a trademark. If you haven’t done so yet, feel free to contact Jinrui’s Trademark Assistant for help. If your trademark is already registered, applying for VMC trademark protection becomes relatively simple.

Just follow these steps:

 1. Purchase a Verified Mark Certificate through DigiCert or apply for a VMC via a trusted Certificate Authority (CA);

 2. Display your company’s trademark logo in your email communications.

※The availability of VMC certification may vary by country. Relevant authorities are actively working to expand the list of countries whose trademarks are eligible for VMC recognition. Jinrui Trademark can assist you in registering trademarks across multiple countries to help you complete your VMC certification and ensure your brand is protected on a global scale.

Currently, Taiwanese trademarks are not yet included in the list of those eligible for VMC certification.
