On March 25, the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (TIPO) launched its AI-powered “Image-Based Trademark Search System.”
With this tool, users can upload a trademark image to easily and quickly search for identical or similar trademarks that have already been applied for or registered by others.
This system helps individuals assess whether they should proceed with a trademark registration, while also reducing the risk of rejection due to similarity or confusion with existing trademarks — increasing the chance of a successful registration.
Enter the “Search by Image” page, then select the trademark image file you wish to search — simply click “Search →” to proceed.
The launch of the image-based trademark search function will significantly enhance the efficiency and convenience of trademark registration. However, it is currently in the trial phase and is only available as an image-assisted search tool.
Before the official version is released, users should still rely on the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office’s trademark search system, using the “Image Similarity Search” feature by setting “Image Path,” “Goods or Services Description,” or “Similar Group” for accurate results.
Note that whether a trademark is approved also depends on the subjective judgment of the examiner, in addition to search results.
