Breakfast shop owners, beware!Here are 10 trademarks that might surprise you — using them on your menu could get you a lawyer’s warning letter!
- McNuggets / 麥克雞塊 / 麥克雞 – Using the same names on your menu is direct trademark infringement.
- Drive-Thru (得來速)
- McDeluxe (麥香堡)
- McXiang (麥香) – Registered under “restaurant services.” Trademark is currently not renewed; exclusive period ends 2024/07/31, extension deadline is 2025/01/14.
- McCrispy (麥脆鷄)
- Filet-O-Fish (麥香魚)
- Happy Sharing Meal (快樂分享餐) – Registered under “restaurant services.”
- Happy Kids Meal (快樂兒童餐) – Registered under “bread, sandwiches.” Don’t just casually put it on your menu.
- Churros (吉拿棒) – In 2023, someone tried to register “Liko Churros” (立可吉拿棒), but it was preliminarily rejected by the Taiwan IP Office for being too similar to a mark owned by Taco House Co., Ltd.
- Love Potion (愛情靈藥) – Be very careful. You may imagine selling this magical coffee, but it’s already registered in the categories of “coffee” and “desserts.”
💥 The first 8 trademarks are all owned exclusively by McDonald's Corporation, and are protected throughout Taiwan.
You never know when their legal team might start sending out infringement notices!
