Success takes luck—but luck favors the prepared!
This saying absolutely applies to sticker illustrators and creators as well.

Several beverage brands in Taiwan have collaborated with creators to launch co-branded packaging designs, such as:

  • Di Yi Wei × Relax Cat (爽爽貓)
  • Kung Fu Tea × Hi Xiaoqiang (嗨小強)
  • Xian Cha Dao × I’m So Done Bunny (好想兔)
  • Beard Papa Tea × 87 Bunny (87小兔)
  • TP-TEA × LAIMO
  • Ching Shin Fu Chuan × Huang Ah Ma’s Harem Life (黃阿瑪的後宮生活)
  • Jin Fa Jia × Gudetama
  • Jenjudan × The Rebellion of Elementary Textbooks (小學課本的逆襲)

If creators want to boost exposure across Taiwan through brand collaborations, the first step is to check whether their intellectual property is fully protected.

The two most basic types of IP protection from the Intellectual Property Office are:

  1. Trademark rights
  2. Copyrights

Copyright is based on the principle of automatic protection upon creation. As long as the creator can preserve documentation of their creative process, it can serve as valid evidence in court if needed.

Trademarks, on the other hand, must be formally registered with the Intellectual Property Office to be protected.
Regardless of whether you want to protect a graphic, text, or a combination (composite mark), trademark applications are charged by class—each class representing a different scope of goods or services.

For creators or those in cultural and creative industries, we’ve already prepared a recommended list of trademark classes:

  • 2 core classes
  • 5 essential classes
  • 5 related classes

Feel free to message us if you'd like a copy.

Here are examples of text trademarks that should be registered:

  1. Character or mascot names, e.g., Gudetama
  2. Series titles, e.g., The Rebellion of Elementary Textbooks
  3. Author pen names or stage names, e.g., Jimmy Liao
  4. Names of supporting characters, enemies, magical items, or fictional places, e.g., The Mirror of Erised or Gotham City
  5. Studio names, e.g., D.C. Comics
