Many startups and brand owners often overlook the importance of trademark registration when building their brand.

• Company name registration (including sole proprietorships and partnerships) is overseen by the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Economic Affairs, and is governed by the Company Act.
• Trademark applications are handled by the Intellectual Property Office (TIPO), Ministry of Economic Affairs, under the Trademark Act.

In other words, even if you’ve completed company registration, you still need to submit a trademark application to the Intellectual Property Office.
Only after it passes examination and is officially approved will you obtain exclusive trademark protection.
